First impressions matter when selling your home. Here's how to wow buyers with your home's curb appeal.

When selling your home, your facade has a large role to play. It's front and center on your listing photos, and it's the first thing potential buyers see when touring your home. Making a good first impression is important for generating interest in your listing and foot traffic.

Our real estate agents always tell clients to never underestimate the power of curb appeal when it comes time to sell their home. Do everything you can to make the outside shine so buyers can fall in love at first sight. Here are a few curb appeal upgrades you should definitely make before selling:

  1. Add A Fresh Coat Of Paint
Painting is one of the easiest and most effective ways to spruce up your curb appeal. Paint the front door, the porch, the shutters, the garage door, and the trim. New paint will really make your facade appear night and bright. Just avoid using any odd or mismatched colors!

  2. Rejuvenate Your Lawn
A bright, healthy lawn is an important component of your home's curb appeal. If your grass is browning or your lawn is full of weeds, you'll definitely want to start rejuvenating things as soon as possible. Once things start looking better, then don't forget about regular maintenance. Make sure to mow the lawn, pull weeds, rake leaves, and water your grass as needed. Also, remove any tree branches or other debris. For examples of beautiful lawns, check out these Nassau County homes for sale.

  3. Add Some Nice Lighting
While it's true the majority of potential buyers will see your home in the daytime, you never know who may drive by in the evening. As a result, you'll want to ensure your facade is bright at night. As some fresh lighting next to the front door, and make sure your sidewalk is lined with some nice LED lanterns. String lights over the porch are also a trendy way to attract some attention.

  4. Do Some Power Washing
The front of your home tends to accumulate quite a bit of dirt and grime from wind and weather. Break out the power washer (or rent one from your local hardware store) and use it to clean your facade from top to bottom.

  5. Trim Your Trees And Shrubs
If your trees are starting to show a lot of dead branches and your shrubs are growing out of control, you'll definitely want to do some pruning before putting your home on the market. If you have a large tree, you may want to call a professional to come do the trimming.

  6. Swap Out Your House Numbers
Updating your house numbers can help give your home a fresh look, and it can also make it easier for potential buyers to find your home. Choose a nice metal or wood design that matches the rest of the home.

  7. Add Some Window Boxes
Window boxes with nice flowers are a quick and easy way to add some extra color and greenery. Add some boxes to your street-facing upstairs windows. Pansies or petunias are great choices.

While many sellers spend most of their energy fixing up a home's interior, the facade is a very important role to play in the sale process, so make sure to give it the attention it deserves. For more home-selling tips, contact us today.
